The lines

Opinion plus reason

Give the verdict, then the 'because': 'Me encantó porque la comida estaba buenísima.' Change the ending to 'porque el sitio era precioso' or 'porque fuimos con amigos'.

Me encantó porque la comida estaba buenísima.

“I loved it because the food was delicious.”

When to use it: Saying what you thought of a meal, film or place

What you’ll hear back: Ya, a mí también me gustó mucho. (Yeah, I liked it a lot too.)

Disagreeing softly

Instead of a flat 'no me gustó', Spaniards soften it: 'Pues a mí no me convenció mucho.' The 'pues a mí' marks it as just your view, so nobody takes offence.

Pues a mí no me convenció mucho.

“Well, I wasn't very convinced.”

When to use it: When the group loved something you did not

What you’ll hear back: ¿Ah, no? Pues a mí me pareció genial. (Really? I thought it was great.)
