Missions: get ready for a real day

A mission is something real on your calendar that you want to be ready for: a trip, a job interview, dinner with your partner’s family. Open Missions in the top navigation, say what is happening and when (up to a year ahead), and, if you like, tell your teacher a little more about it. In about 15 seconds you get a plan that counts down to the day. Missions work in every language that has a learning path.

What is in the plan

  • From your path: scenes from your learning path, picked for what the day will need.
  • Made for you: two or three scenes written just for your event.
  • A dress rehearsal close to the day, which runs through the whole event from start to finish.
  • Key phrases: 5 to 8 phrases to have ready on the day itself.

Each step has a due date between today and the day. A new plan has up to 10 steps, or 4 if the day is a week away or less. A step is done when you score 60 or more in its scene, or 70 for a checkpoint. Path scenes you passed before planning count too. During lessons in that language, your teacher knows what you are preparing for and connects your practice to it when it fits.

The countdown

Your nearest mission shows on the home screen for its language: the days left, the steps you have done, and a Start button for the next one. On the day, it points you to your key phrases to glance at before you walk in. Once the day has passed, it asks how it went for up to a week, and you can mark the mission done on the Missions page.

Something changed? Edit the title, date or details, and your teacher can re-plan the steps you have not done yet. You can have up to 5 missions coming up at once; mark one done or archive it to plan another.

Missions come with Starter, Fluent or a mission pack

Planning a mission, or re-planning one, needs an active Starter or Fluent plan, or a mission pack: one payment for 3 hours of conversation and the mission planner for 60 days, with no subscription (see "The mission pack: ready in 60 days"). The scenes written for your mission are custom scenes, so they use practice time. If your plan or pack ends, your missions stay: you can still see, edit, finish or delete them. See "Buy practice hours".
