Tools for real life: menus, messages, conversations and articles

The tools help with the language you meet outside your lessons. Sign in and open Tools in the top navigation. The tools work in the language you last picked, and everything is explained in English (simple English if you are learning English).

Four tools

  • Read a menu or sign: take a photo, or choose one you already have. You get the words in it with their meanings, and phrases to use. Meanings are a guide, so always ask the staff about allergies.
  • Understand a message: paste a message you received. You get what it means, its tone, the words to know, and ways to reply, casual or polite.
  • After a conversation: tell us what happened, in English or in your new language. You get what you could have said, and a word of encouragement.
  • Read an article: paste a link or the text. You get a version at your level, the key words, and a few questions to check you understood. If a link does not work, paste the text instead.

Choose "Help me with this" and your result is ready in 10 to 30 seconds.

Use what you get

  • "Add to my review" puts the result’s phrases into your spoken review.
  • "Rehearse this" turns the result into a live scene, so you can practice it out loud. Like a custom scene, it uses practice time.
  • Your results stay under "Your saved results" on the Tools page. Open one again at any time, or delete it.

How often you can use them

Without a Starter or Fluent plan, you can use the tools 5 times in any 24 hours, across all your languages. With a plan, you can use them 40 times. Deleting a result does not give a turn back.

What we keep

Your photo is read and thrown away; we never store it. We keep the result, but not the message, notes or article text you sent. For an article link, we keep the link with the result. Delete a result on the Tools page, and deleting your account deletes them all.
