The lines
Booking on the phone
The fixed formula is prendre rendez-vous, literally to take an appointment: "Bonjour, je voudrais prendre rendez-vous avec le docteur." Never faire un rendez-vous.
Bonjour, je voudrais prendre rendez-vous avec le docteur.
“Hello, I'd like to make an appointment with the doctor.”
When to use it: First sentence on the phone, after Bonjour
What you’ll hear back: Vous êtes déjà venu chez nous ? (Have you been to us before?)
Where it hurts, since when
Give the spot, then the duration with depuis: "J'ai mal au ventre depuis trois jours." Depuis is for a pain that is still going on, so never use pour here.
J'ai mal au ventre depuis trois jours.
“My stomach has hurt for three days.”
When to use it: The doctor's very first question to you
What you’ll hear back: Ça vous fait mal quand j'appuie ? (Does it hurt when I press?)
