A2 · Unit 3 · Daily life · Checkpoint

This is the unit’s checkpoint: one roleplay that puts the unit’s scenes together.

The lines

Symptom plus how long

The backbone of every health conversation: j'ai mal à plus the body part, then depuis plus the duration, as in "J'ai mal à la gorge depuis deux jours."

J'ai mal à la gorge depuis deux jours.

“My throat has hurt for two days.”

When to use it: At the pharmacy counter and in the doctor's room

What you’ll hear back: Vous avez de la fièvre ? (Do you have a fever?)

Getting the appointment

One formula opens every diary in France, and you add when you need it: "Bonjour, je voudrais prendre rendez-vous, si possible aujourd'hui." Say Bonjour first, or you sound rude.

Bonjour, je voudrais prendre rendez-vous, si possible aujourd'hui.

“Hello, I'd like to make an appointment, today if possible.”

When to use it: Calling the surgery first thing in the morning

What you’ll hear back: J'ai une place aujourd'hui à 15 h. (I have a slot today at 3 p.m.)
