The lines
Saying where you are going
No full sentence needed: greet the driver, then say "à" plus the place. "À la place de la Bastille, s'il vous plaît." works for hotels, streets and stations too.
À la place de la Bastille, s'il vous plaît.
“To the Place de la Bastille, please.”
When to use it: As soon as you sit down
What you’ll hear back: Très bien, c'est parti. (Very good, off we go.)
Asking roughly how much
"À peu près" means roughly, and it makes the money question sound polite: "C'est combien, à peu près ?" Ask it before the car moves, not at the end.
C'est combien, à peu près ?
“Roughly how much is it?”
When to use it: Before the ride starts
What you’ll hear back: Environ vingt-cinq euros. (About twenty-five euros.)
