When: Item in hand, at the rail or counter
The moment
You walk into a clothes shop in Shibuya to buy a jacket: ask for your size, try it on, and pay by card with the receipt. The next day you are back at the same counter because the size is wrong and you need an exchange.

Asking for a size or colour
Every clothes purchase starts here: 「これのMサイズはありますか。」 The same pattern gets you a colour too: 「これの黒はありますか。」

When to use it: Item in hand, at the rail or counter
What you’ll hear back: はい、少々お待ちください。 hai, shōshō omachi kudasai. (Yes, one moment please.)
Paying by card or cash
Check first with 「カードは使えますか。」, then say 「カードでお願いします。」 If the answer is no, you already know the fix: 「現金でお願いします。」

When to use it: At the register, paying
What you’ll hear back: かしこまりました。二千八百円になります。 kashikomarimashita. nisen happyaku en ni narimasu. (Certainly. That comes to 2,800 yen.)

全部で means 'all together', so this asks for the final total.
