A sick day in Spanish: doctor, pharmacy and a moved appointment
Quería pedir cita con el médico, por favor.
“I'd like to make an appointment with the doctor, please.”
When: First words on any appointment call

The moment
You wake up in Madrid feeling rough. You call the centro de salud for an appointment, stop at the farmacia for something mild to get you through the morning, and then ring the peluquería to move your haircut because the doctor can only see you at that hour.
A2 · Unit 3 · Daily life · Checkpoint
This is the unit’s checkpoint: one roleplay that puts the unit’s scenes together.
The lines
Booking with quería
The polite imperfect opens any booking call: "Quería pedir cita con el médico, por favor." Swap médico for the salon or the dentist and the line still works.
Quería pedir cita con el médico, por favor.
“I'd like to make an appointment with the doctor, please.”
When to use it: First words on any appointment call
What you’ll hear back: ¿Para hoy mismo o le va bien mañana? (For today or does tomorrow suit you?)
Symptom plus how long
Both the doctor and the pharmacist ask ¿desde cuándo? Answer with the spot first, then desde hace and the time: "Me duele la garganta desde hace dos días."
Me duele la garganta desde hace dos días.
“My throat has hurt for two days.”
When to use it: Explaining yourself at the counter or in the surgery
What you’ll hear back: ¿Y tiene fiebre? (And do you have a fever?)
