The moment

Your internet has been dead for two days in your Paris flat. Call the provider, get past the menu to a real adviser, explain the fault, refuse the restart-it-and-wait answer, and come away with a technician booked and a case number.

This is the unit’s checkpoint: one roleplay that puts the unit’s scenes together.

The lines

Opening with the reason

Reason first, story after: « Bonjour, je vous appelle au sujet de ma box qui ne fonctionne plus depuis deux jours. » One sentence gives them the what and the since when.

Bonjour, je vous appelle au sujet de ma box qui ne fonctionne plus depuis deux jours.

“Hello, I'm calling about my internet box, which hasn't worked for two days.”

When to use it: Your first sentence to the adviser

What you’ll hear back: D'accord, vous avez votre numéro de client ? (Okay, do you have your customer number?)

Pushing back politely

When the first answer is « redémarrez et rappelez demain », the conditional keeps you courteous while you refuse: « Je préférerais qu'un technicien passe. » Polite in form, immovable in content.

Je préférerais qu'un technicien passe.

“I'd prefer a technician to come.”

When to use it: After they suggest something you have already tried

What you’ll hear back: Je peux vous proposer mardi entre 8h et 12h. (I can offer you Tuesday between 8am and midday.)
