“I bought it three weeks ago and it doesn't turn on anymore.”
When: Your opening line at the counter

The moment
The laptop you bought three weeks ago will not switch on any more. You take it back to the shop in Paris with the receipt: they want to send it off for repair, and you want your money back.

The lines
Saying what went wrong
Give the date, then the fault: « Je l'ai acheté il y a trois semaines et il ne s'allume plus. » « Ne… plus » is the load-bearing bit — it used to work and now it doesn't.
“I bought it three weeks ago and it doesn't turn on anymore.”
When to use it: Your opening line at the counter
What you’ll hear back: Vous avez le ticket de caisse ? (Do you have the receipt?)
Saying what you would rather have
French shops push a repair or « un avoir », a store credit. The conditional lets you refuse and stay pleasant: « Je préférerais un remboursement plutôt qu'un avoir. »
“I'd prefer a refund rather than store credit.”
When to use it: When they offer a voucher or a repair instead
What you’ll hear back: Je vais voir ce que je peux faire, je demande à ma responsable. (I'll see what I can do, I'll ask my manager.)

I bought it in March, so it's still under warranty. Tip: Say « garantie légale » — French law covers you two years.
| Ça ne me convient pas | sah nuh muh kohn-vyan PAH | That doesn't work for me |
Waiting six weeks for the repair doesn't work for me. Tip: The polite refusal; calm and flat wins arguments in French shops.
| Je peux parler au responsable ? | zhuh puh par-LAY oh res-pohn-SAHBL | Can I speak to the manager? |
I understand you can't decide this. Can I speak to the manager? Tip: « Responsable », not « manager » — blame the rules, not the person.
