Catching up over coffee in Italian: stories, opinions, plans
Sabato sono uscito con degli amici e poi abbiamo mangiato una pizza.
“On Saturday I went out with some friends and then we had a pizza.”
When: When they ask what you have been up to

The moment
You run into an old classmate outside a bar in Trastevere and end up at a table with two coffees. Swap weekend stories, compare opinions on a trattoria you both know, then invite them out before the coffee goes cold, because they will hesitate.

The lines
Your weekend in two events
The story pattern from this unit, ready to reuse: "Sabato sono uscito con degli amici e poi abbiamo mangiato una pizza." Swap the verbs, keep the e poi.
Sabato sono uscito con degli amici e poi abbiamo mangiato una pizza.
“On Saturday I went out with some friends and then we had a pizza.”
When to use it: When they ask what you have been up to
What you’ll hear back: Che bello! E domenica? (Nice! And Sunday?)
Closing with an invitation
End the catch-up with a plan, not a vague promise: "Ti va di fare un aperitivo venerdì dopo il lavoro?" If they hesitate, offer another day straight away.
Ti va di fare un aperitivo venerdì dopo il lavoro?
“Would you like to have an aperitivo on Friday after work?”
When to use it: Just before you say goodbye
What you’ll hear back: Venerdì è difficile, ma sabato sì. (Friday is tricky, but Saturday works.)
