Your objective in each scene
Scenes on your path and in the catalog, scenes you create, and the scenes made for your missions and your "About you" lessons come with an objective: one concrete thing to get done in the roleplay, in your own words. For example: "Order a drink and say how you’d like it, then ask how much it is or ask for the bill."
Before and during the scene
- While the room opens, you see your objective and the phrases that get it done.
- During the scene, the panel above the talk button shows "Your objective" and "Useful phrases": two or three lines in the language you are learning, each with what it means and a listen button.
- Listening lowers your teacher’s voice while the phrase plays; your teacher keeps talking underneath. A phrase never plays while you hold the talk button.
- On a phone, the objective stays in view and the phrases fold into one row: tap the play icon to hear one, or "Show all" to read their meanings.
- Your teacher gives you natural chances to do it, more than once if you need them, but never does it for you and never announces it.
The checklist
Next to the objective, its parts (like "a drink" or "the bill") tick when you say one of the phrases for them. The ticks are only a guide: they listen for the phrases’ key words, so a part you said in your own way may stay unticked. Your Replay decides.
In your Replay
- Done: what you did, with your own line that did it.
- Not this time: what was missing, the objective again, and the lines that would have done it, for your next try.
- A session where you said less than two things, or that ended in the short quiz, is not judged.
On your path, a scene shows "Objective done" or "Objective missed" under its score. Moving on still depends on your score only. The daily call has no objective; its ringing screen may suggest "Something to try" instead.
In a lesson, what you say also appears with its meaning in English under your line, the way your teacher’s lines do (not when you are learning English). Learning English in your own language? On path and catalog scenes your objective shows in your language, and the phrases stay in English with their meanings in your language.
