Le 11e: your French neighborhood
If you are learning French, your path takes place in Le 11e, a neighborhood in Paris. You arrive, move into a flat, become a regular at the corner café, and make real friends along the way. Each scene happens somewhere in the neighborhood, often with someone you already know. We are trying this with French first.
Who you meet
- Nadia, the baker at Le Pétrin Bleu, and the first person you say bonjour to.
- Madame Ndiaye, the neighborhood pharmacist.
- Gilles, who runs Le Bon Réveil, the corner café, and his daughter Inès, a young graphic designer.
- Yanis, a neighbor in your building who plays bass.
- Mei, the designer behind Atelier Pelote, a small knitwear shop.
- Hugo, who runs Les Deux Cuillères, a small bistro.
- Philippe, a senior colleague at work.
Some scenes are with strangers, like a market stallholder or a hotel receptionist. During a live lesson, a small label shows who you are talking to and where, like "with Nadia · Le Pétrin Bleu".
The map
Your path appears as a map of the neighborhood. Each unit is a place, and a walking route joins them in order: solid where you have been, dotted where you are going next. Choose a place to jump to its scenes in the list below the map, where each unit also shows who you will meet there. The Map and List buttons switch views, and Linguino remembers your choice on that device.
What the characters remember
After a scene with one of them, that person may keep up to two short notes about what happened between you, like your usual order, a plan you made or a promise. Next time you meet, they may bring one up. Your Replay shows what they will remember. The notes come only from what you said or did in the scene, and like your teacher’s notes, they are designed to leave out sensitive details.
See or delete what they remember
- Open your notebook (Notebook in your account menu, top right) and find "Your neighborhood". It shows everyone in the neighborhood, whether you have met them yet, and every note they keep.
- Delete any note on its own, or choose "Forget all" to clear them all at once.
- While memory is paused, the characters do not save new notes or bring up old ones. Notes they already have stay in your notebook until you delete them.
- Deleting your account deletes all of these notes.
