Stuck in a scene? Get help or try again
In live lessons on the website, a help button sits next to the talk button, and after your first answer a "Try that again" button joins it. Tapping either one stops whatever your teacher is saying, and "Help is on its way…" or "Going back to the last line…" shows until the answer starts.
Help, one step at a time
The help button’s label says what the next tap does. Each tap gives you a little more:
- Help me start: you hear the first two or three words of a good answer, said slowly, and you finish it.
- Show me the line: a whole answer appears as a phrase card and is said once, slowly. Then you say it.
- Explain: your teacher steps out of the scene and explains in English (simple English if you are learning English) what was just said and how you could answer, with an example. Then you go back to the same moment in the scene.
After "Explain", the button stays on "Explain". Once you answer, it starts again at "Help me start".
Try that again
Not happy with what you just said? Tap "Try that again" and you hear the line you were answering again, word for word. Then you get a fresh try, and your teacher does not comment on the first one.
Lessons longer than five minutes also have a second try built in: near the end, your teacher picks the one or two moments you found hardest and plays them again. Shorter sessions skip that part, but the button still works.
In your Replay
Your Replay counts how often you used each button: "help used" and "tries again". The placement chat, the "About you" chat and the level check do not have these buttons.
