Your voice: hear how far you have come

There is nothing to record. When you practice on the website, Linguino keeps a short clip of your own voice from your live sessions: what you said in your first session in a language, and what you said in your latest one. Weeks later you can play them side by side and hear how far you have come.

What is kept

  • The first 30 seconds you say in a session: only while your microphone is on to talk, never your teacher.
  • What you said in those seconds, as text.
  • Two clips for each language. Day one comes from your first session with at least 10 seconds of your speech and is never replaced. The latest is replaced after every session with at least 10 seconds. A shorter session keeps nothing.
  • Live lessons, daily calls, narrate mode, the level check and the placement chat all count; the placement chat is often the first time you speak. The "About you" chat counts only when you are learning English and it is in simple English; otherwise it is not in the language you are learning.

Where to hear it

Open Progress in the top navigation and find Your voice: day one next to your latest clip, each with its date, what you said and a play button. Once your latest clip is a month newer than day one, a "Hear yourself" card on your home screen reminds you. Play a clip or choose Later, and it rests for a month.

Private, and yours to delete

Your clips are stored privately and play through private links that expire after a few hours. To delete both clips of a language, choose Delete under Your voice on your progress page or in your notebook. While memory is paused in your notebook, no clips are kept. Deleting your account deletes them all. Sessions in the iPhone and Android apps keep no clips.

This replaces the voice capsule, where you recorded yourself once a month. Recordings you made there are kept privately until you delete your clips of that language or your account; contact us to have them removed sooner.
